Sword of Damocles: Largely considered the first virtual reality device to use a head unit, the Sword of Damocles was built in 1968 by Ivan Sutherland. One look at the picture and you’ll understand why this wasn’t going to be widespread, consumer grade tech. This thing was heavy! Still, with a name like the “Sword of Damocles,” you can’t help but want to strap in and try it out.

Lawnmower Man: Released in 1992, Directed by Brett Leonard and starring Pierce Brosnan and Jeff Fahey. Pure 90’s cheese but does introduce us to a pretty nice virtual reality system. Probably the thing Lawnmower Man is most famous for, at least for us, is it’s the first to show us digital coitus. Once you see it, it can’t be unseen.
